The IPC sets minimum slopes by pipe size: drains 2-1/2 inches and smaller need 1/4 in/ft, 3- through 6-inch drains need 1/8 in/ft, and 8-inch and larger need 1/16 in/ft.
Why C: Drains from 3 through 6 inches fall in the middle size range of the slope table, which calls for 1/8 inch of fall per foot.
